Butterfield Says Supreme Court's Decision Means Trump Not Above the Law

Today, Congressman G. K. Butterfield (NC-01) released the following statement on the decisions handed down by the Supreme Court of the United States regarding President Trump's tax and financial records:

"The President of the United States is not above the law, and I commend the Supreme Court for decisively ruling against President Trump's claim that he has blanket immunity from prosecutorial and Congressional subpoenas. Although I am disappointed that the Court decided to send both cases back to the lower courts for further consideration, I am encouraged that these legitimate subpoenas from Congress and federal prosecutors have merit and cannot simply be swept aside by this President.

"President Trump's outrageous efforts to hide his financial dealings and foreign entanglements from the American people are unacceptable. The President is not above the law and the truth will be revealed."
